Cytotoxic Effects of Water-Soluble Extracts of Coarse and Fine Atmospheric Particulate Matter on Mast Cell Lines

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution causes serious health disorders, because PM2.5 becomes deposited in the tracheobronchial and alveoli regions. In extrathoracic region, there are more deposits of coarse than fine particulates. As adverse issues caused by particulates have not been well investigated, this study examined cytotoxicity water-soluble extracts both (0.05-3 µm, PM0.05-3) (> 3 PM>3) collected from April 2016 to March 2019 Fukuoka, Japan. Also evaluated were concentrations NH4+ SO42-, multi-components well-known secondary generation substances. The findings revealed that PM>3 showed stronger cytotoxic effects on mast cell lines PM0.05-3. Cytotoxic observed at over 15 mM (NH4)2SO4 30 NH4Cl. contrast, Na2SO4 few up a concentration 50 mM. causative substances for may SO42- their indicating largest 1 0.4 mM, respectively. cytotoxicities PM0.05-3 highest first half FY2016. These seem be due cross-border pollution, although has declining recent years. An increasing trend was second FY2018. This always correlated. Thus, we should focus only quantity atmospheric matter, but also its quality.
